Houston, we have a problem. Weather stations have yet to confirm or deny whether or not the city of Houston will be under water this weekend. But, fear not! Whether you’re preparing for the worst or ignoring all warning signs of potential flooding, we want to prepare you for a few days of fun in the hopes that we’re not on total lockdown!
There’s quite a bit going on around town this weekend. The Houston Dynamo and Dash both have games scheduled and Restaurant Week is still happening daily. But we’ve listed a few more events in the greater Houston area to fill the last weekend of August before we say goodbye to the summer months and accept the fact that we’re in the home-stretch of 2017!
Thursday, August 24th
Astros v Nationals at Minute Maid Park
The last of the three-game series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals is this Thursday at Minute Maid Park. Dallas Keuchel will be pitching for the ‘Stros and he’s been heating up by allowing only one run in the last two games that he’s started. The game will begin at 7:10 pm and tickets are starting at only $15 so head on down for a cheap night at the ballpark (unless you’re buying beer, then bring your entire paycheck).
Shawn Wayans
It’s hard to look at Shawn Wayans and not see Kevin Copeland from White Chicks, but we’re encouraging you to give it a shot! He’s headlining at Houston Improv this Thursday at 8 pm and hopefully that high from laughing all day will carry you into the final day of the week when we’re normally all dragging our feet counting down the hours until the weekend. If you can’t make it out Thursday, no worries, the show goes on Friday-Sunday!
Friday, August 25th
Food Truck Friday
This free, public event is a great way to try new foods from different trucks around the city. From 5-8 pm this Friday you’ll catch mobile treateries in front of the Harvest Corner Drive community’s Farmhouse. Picnic with friends or family, play lawn games, or listen to the DJ as you check out the different foods! As mentioned, it costs nothing to enter, but you’ll need money for food!

Saturday, August 26th
Pearland Wine and Food Festival
Spend your Saturday sipping wine and tasting local foods at the 6th Annual Pearland Wine and Food Festival that also offers art and music from across Texas. The event is hosted by Dionisio Winery and will take place at the Pearland Town Center Pavilion. Tickets are $30 which includes 10 Tasting Tickets, a commemorative wristband, and wine glass!

Marvel’s Ant-Man Outdoor Movie
Unless we’re cooped up due to this looming torrential downpour, you should head down to Central Green Park and catch Ant-Man at dusk! This is a free event to the public put on by the Willow Fork Drainage District. Picnic and lawn chairs are welcome, alcohol and pets are not. This is a family-friendly event but the movie is rated PG-13, just an FYI!
Sunday, August 27th
Houston Theatre District Open House
This extravaganza celebrating the arts is a must if you’re interested in the Houston Theatre scene. The open house includes performances from 11 arts organizations across five venues around town. There will be backstage tours, demonstrations, performer meet-and-greets, and calligraphy lessons! The event runs from 12-6 pm and is free to attend!
Lady Antebellum and Kelsea Ballerini
Break out your cowboy boots and flannels y’all because country music will be taking over the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Sunday night. Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young open for Lady Antebellum which sounds like every modern-day country fans’ dream. The show starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are starting at $30.75 each so grab a date who’s “looking good all day, all night” and head on up to the Woodlands!
