Living in Southwest Austin

Southwest Austin includes sub-neighborhoods like Barton Hills, Oak Hill, Shady Hollow, Circle C, and Bee Cave. It has great mix of residential and apartment housing options, while still having quick access to Downtown via 290/71 and Mopac. Pricing tends to be lower closer towards the city, but the further West you go, there are inherently fewer apartment options, meaning higher rates to offset low supply and moderate demand. Renters here enjoy quick access to essentials at grocery stores and strip malls, but don’t have to stress too much about commute times. Of course, with only two highways being the main thoroughfares to and from downtown, traffic during rush hour is no joke.

Southwest Austin is home to the Wildflower Center, a premiere spot for viewing central Texas nature. Nearby, you have the Veloway, a 3-mile dedicated biking track. Running through Southwest Austin is Slaughter Creek, with many different hiking, picnic, and park spots to spend a sunny afternoon. To round it all out, the Violet Crown trail runs for 13 miles all the way from the Wildflower Center to Zilker Park! Mall rats, rejoice! Two of Austin’s major malls, Barton Creek and Hill Country Galleria, are in Southwest. Southwest is truly the best spot to live if you want a little hill country, urban, and suburban all in one place.
