East Austin is one of the city’s most vibrant and culturally-rich areas. This area was once primarily residential and industrial, but it’s transformed over the years into a hub for local businesses, trendy restaurants, and busiest bars, while still keeping its local and artistic charm. You’ll multi-story apartment complexes scattered among historic bungalows and fine dining establishments. East 6th is your perfect nighttime spot for bar-hopping after a nice dinner (at Suerte or Il Brutto!). You get a great mix of brewery/patio-style watering holes (Lazarus, Zilker Brewing), dive bars (Liberty, La Perla), and one-size-fits-all dancing, drinking, and casual bars like Hotel Vegas and Latchkey. Head a little further east to more of the same (with lots more square footage), with beloved eat/drink spots like Kinda Tropical, Central Machine Works, and Dainty Dillo. 

As with most neighborhoods, apartment pricing can vary dramatically depending on how close you are to Downtown and I-35. The closer to the highway, the more expensive the property. Springdale, 5-10 min east, offers better value and newer developments. Expect a range of options, from converted lofts to modern townhomes and upscale mid-rises. East Austin is the perfect spot for anyone hard to please, because there is truly an apartment and an activity for everyone.
