Living in Lakewood

Located West of the city, Lakewood is known for its impeccable access to the mountains and its slightly suburban feel. Unlike many surrounding Denver suburbs, Lakewood is a highly desirable area for those looking to have access to the city in about 20 minutes, without living on a cul-de-sac that’s giving Wysteria Lane. The caveat here is that Lakewood is HUGE. Covering eight sub-neighborhoods, it’s actually the 5th largest city in Colorado. Keep this in mind when searching! If you need city access, the east side of Lakewood will be your best bet, but if you’re looking to hit the mountains in a pinch, stay on the west side! Neighboring Morisson, home of the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater, you’ll never be far from your next show or core memory. And when the weekend rolls around, hit I-70 in a breeze and head out to camp or ski before everyone else even reaches 70. First chair, anyone?

Given its suburban nature, you will find fewer apartments than you do homes. Though multi-family rentals are growing here, most rentals are private, making it often difficult to secure your desired spot. Add on that you’re likely battling 5+ other potential tenants, and we’ll be the first to say, scoring a place in Lakewood can be challenging. Reasons that add to that include, well, there aren’t a ton of downsides. Sure, driving to the mountains/ into the city can get congested, but you likely won’t see much traffic on side streets, and most of the time, street parking isn’t an issue. However, you’d think you get more bang for your buck outside the city, right? Wrong. Unfortunately, Lakewood will run you similar to what you’ll see in central Denver. With the rise in working from home and people getting priced out of major cities, West Denver has become THAT spot. Now the only issue is finding a place! The good thing is, we can help with that!
