Festivals To Look Forward To That Aren’t ACL
We all know ACL is dope – duh. But what about all the days leading up to it that you still want to immerse yourself in all that Austin’s unique culture has to offer? Well, thank goodness this weird city is never lacking in the festival department. Here are our list of 5 festivals we are looking forward to that aren’t ACL!
Out of Bounds Comedy Festival
Who doesn’t love a good laugh? The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival showcases talents from all across the country in all spectrum of comedy. Imagine, you could go and see the next Amy Poehler or Key and Peele! They also have workshops, meet and greets, and improv jams to get festival goers involved. We can’t think of a better way to spend a week than laughing our butts off!
August 30th, 2016 – September 5th, 2016
Austin Music Video Festival
This is only the second annual Austin Music Video Festival, celebrating music videos made by local artists – it’s a baby festival! In just this year, we’ve already seen such awesome mainstream music videos (Lemonade, anyone?). Imagine what hungry, bad ass Austinites are producing in our community! You can attend the award show, parties, panels, workshops, and live concerts across the four days. We’re going to be deeply analyzing Kanye’s Famous video in hopes of honing our music video prowess before the festival.
September 7th, 2016 to September 10th, 2016
aGLIFF
This is the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival’s 29th year, and they’re showcasing more than 30 feature films and 47 short films that feature stories about people all across the LBTQ+ spectrum and their stories! The festival is held at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, which is as Austin as it gets, and it allows everyone to share in the experiences of the LGBTQ+ members of our community. There are some really promising films lined up this year, and not to mention the fun events and parties held each night of the festival.
September 8th, 2016 – September 11th, 2016
Texas Craft Brewers Festival
Are you even an Austinite if you don’t love craft beer? Well, even if you’re just a cider-sipper, it’s worth heading out to the Craft Brewers Festival. There are going to be over 60 breweries from all across Texas, offering unlimited tastings – pretty much our definition of heaven. Some of your tried and true favorites will be there, like Live Oak or Revolver, or maybe you’ll find some new favorites, too!
September 24th, 2016
Pecan Street Festival
Good ole Pecan Street Festival – emphasis on old, because this is one of the oldest events in Central Texas! Now, if you love Austin, you must love Sixth Street, and this festival is all about preserving this landmark! Go party it up with live music, street performers, and a freaking petting zoo, knowing the proceeds is going towards local projects to keep Sixth Street a lively part of Austin. Not to mention, we heard there will be turkey legs and funnel cake; talk about food coma.
