Michelin-Level Restaurants in Austin

After binging the new season of The Bear, it’s so exciting to hear the announcement that Michelin Guide is coming to Texas this year. This is the first time Texas has been included, and five major cities will be in the French dining rating system: Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Fort Worth. There are so many amazing restaurants in Austin, but Michelin takes things to another level of expertise. Everything from the table settings, decor, music, food quality, presentation, service, and so much more goes into the rankings, so many areas require perfection to meet the standard! Here are a few picks that are worthy of the title.

The Guest House

The most controversial restaurant around town, but they sure made an entrance into the city. The croissant bread they serve complimentary is enough to convince me they deserve at least one Michelin star. It’s melt in your mouth good and I wish I could buy loaves of it to take home.

Sushi Bar & Pasta Bar

The Sushi by Scratch team behind these two restaurants already has a Michelin star under their belt, so they know how to uphold the standards that the stars require. The double digit course meals certainly add an element of class. Each of the restaurants have very limited seating, which makes the intimate experience an exclusive spot.

Suerte & Este

Not only did Suerte make the list of  Eater’s “18 Best New Restaurants in America”, but they have also been featured on the Taco Chronicles Netflix series. The sister restaurant Este has more a seafood focus, but brings some incredibly fresh fish to Central Texas.

Odd Duck

What started as a food truck is now a full on restaurant with vegetable forward dishes. They have been featured on Bon Appetit’s list with 50 best new restaurants. The brick-and-mortor has been open for 10 years now. Barley Swine is a sister restaurant that is just as worthy of the title!

Ember

This restaurant uses live-fire cooking for true Latin flare. This unique approach brings extra flavor! I went here for an anniversary dinner and the sattention to detail with service was spectacular – we received free champagne and a card that all of the staff signed. Not to mention, they give you a shot to start the meal and get the taste buds ready. The Subterra bar below is also the best vibe.

Austin has so many amazing restaurants, but Michelin standards are high. So it’s hard to say which places will actually be snagging a spot!
