ATX is home to some of the tastiest and trendiest food trucks in America. With over 1,000 mobile food vendors in Austin, you could literally eat at a different food truck each day for almost 3 years (challenge accepted). But seriously, if you live in Austin, you know there is at least one food truck around every corner; so, here at Smart City we’ve narrowed it down to 4 of our favorites!

VERACRUZ ALL NATURAL

Open daily from 7am to 3pm

Veracruz sells a variety of authentic Mexican food including fresh salsa, homemade tortillas and chips, quesadillas, an assortment of tacos, and they also have a separate vegetarian menu for all you non-meat eaters out there.

Our favorite item on the menu: The migas tacos, because they are seriously to die for. Made with crushed tortilla chips, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, eggs, cheese, fresh salsa, and a giant slice of avocado, all piled on a homemade corn tortilla. Some Austinites say these are the best tacos in town! Locations on E. Cesar Chavez, Manchaca Rd, and in Round Rock!

BURRO CHEESE KITCHEN:

Open Mon-Sat 11:30am to 8:30pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm

Ummm, this place will probably change your life. Burro Cheese Kitchen is a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich shop that redefines the meaning of grilled cheese. The menu includes 7 varieties of artisan grilled cheese sandwiches, homemade sides, treats, and drinks! You can also create your own masterpiece-grilled cheese for only $6.50!

Our favorite item on the menu: The Waylon & Willie. This sandwich combines aged cheddar and Gouda cheese with onions, pepperoncinis, and spicy maple bacon sauce, grilled between sourdough bread. This place is legit and you will never leave hungry! Locations on South Congress and Rainey Street!

LITTLE LUCY’S MINI DONUTS:

Open Mon-Fri 5pm-2am and Sat-Sun 12pm-2am

Little Lucy’s is somewhat new to the food truck scene in Austin, but they are killing the game. Serving cute mini donuts in a cute pink bag out of a cute pink truck on Rainey Street, it doesn’t seriously get any cuter than this! Think of the Instagram/Snapchat potential of this place!

Our favorite item on the menu: Chow Chow. These mini donuts are simple yet delicious! Topped with a thick coat of cinnamon and sugar and your choice of dipping sauce (caramel is our fav). This place makes the perfect stop for late snacking after a long night of drinking on Rainey Street!

LA BARBECUE:

Open Wed-Sun 11am-6pm or until sold out

Texans love barbecue so naturally we had to have this on our list of favorites. La Barbecue sells your typical BBQ menu items such as ribs, turkey, pulled pork, brisket, sausage and homemade sides. The brisket is smoked for 12 to 15 hours, so you know it’s tender AF, and the sausage is homemade! Yes the lines are long but once you get that first bite of moist brisket it will all be worth it.

Our favorite item on the menu: Sliced brisket with a side of homemade pickled okra and potato salad. And don’t forget to ask for a side of their tangy sauce! Located on E Cesar Chavez street.
