In April, we embarked on a quarter-long journey with Dwell With Dignity, a non-profit who’s work so closely compliments our mission to connect people with the space to be themselves! Focused on designing and furnishing safe, functional homes for families recently removed from homelessness, Dwell With Dignity’s cause seemed almost a direct extension of our own.

What we accomplished together
During the second quarter of the year, Smart City made a pledge to donate $2.50 for every apartment home we helped our clients lease. So, if you worked with a Smart City agent and leased in April, May or June, the final product you see in this blog is because of YOU! We saw great momentum as pledges started rolling in so early in the project. So much so that we aimed to surpass our original goal and try to raise enough money to fund two home renovations, which costs around $10,000. We set our sights high and, though we didn’t make two renovations happen this quarter, we contributed to the gifting of a healthy space for a domestic abuse survivor and her son to call home. The additional funds we raised in an attempt to furnish two apartments, were given directly to the sponsored family to further support them in their transition!
A week prior to the final donation hand-off and new home reveal, we shut down our Dallas office and took time off to volunteer at the Dwell With Dignity warehouse putting things together, sorting through donations and prepping anything that needed to be prepped before the big reveal.
“The most important thing about the partnership with Smart City is not just financial contribution, but the fact that the Smart City team all showed up in a huge group to volunteer at our warehouse,” said Ashley Agnew, Dwell with Dignity’s Executive Director. “We love to have people roll up their sleeves, get down and dirty to really see our progress, and be a part of the transformation.”
Emotions ran high last week as the mother and son entered their newly renovated home, proving that every hour, every effort, every pledge was totally worth it!
