Studios Are So Underrated!

The sad truth is that rent is climbing quickly in Dallas, but if you can sacrifice some space, you can still get a great deal on studio apartments. Same beautiful finishes, amenities, views, just without that overrated bedroom separation. Yep, I said it: overrated. Studios get a lot of flack, but it gives you a lot of room to be creative and really lay out a space exactly how you want it!

Don’t knock studios just yet. Here are the reasons why we love studios, plus quick tips on how to decorate them!

DREAM LOCATION

The thing about living in a studio is that, by sacrificing some space, you can afford to live in the heart of the best neighborhoods! You may not have a separate bedroom, but you can now be in the heart of Uptown, walking distance to work, and all of your favorite bars/restaurants/stores. When the location is amazing enough, it’s worth sacrificing the one or two walls that come with a one bedroom apartment. And trust us, you’ll be saving some major dolla bills. In  Uptown, we’ve seen studios around $1,200 in the same complex that a one bed will run you about $1,600!!

CONVENIENCE

Smaller space means SO much easier to clean up. You aren’t going to have that extra hundred square feet to mess up, so keeping tidy will be a breeze. And since most of everything will be in one room, getting up in the middle of the night to grab a glass of water will never be a struggle. It sounds trivial, but trust us, when you’re cozy in bed and realized you forgot something, getting up in a studio is so much easier than in a one or two bedroom.

YOUR SOCIAL LIFE

TBH, living in a studio isn’t super conducive to being a couch potato. Your social life will just flourish! While we love our studios, it’s necessary to take a breather, and it forces us to go out and try new things. Seriously. You don’t realize how much more motivated you are going to be to go out and find something to do/visit than when you are living in a studio and getting just a little tired of either sitting in bed or on the couch. Somehow, in a one or two bedroom, you can trick yourself into thinking you aren’t just wasting your life away watching Netflix. Don’t be fooled. See the light.

But we get it, the big thing about studios is that lack of separation. How do you decorate just one open space? Well, we’ve got two quick tips:

CURTAINS

Curtains, dude. Such a simple piece of furniture, but it can make a huge difference in your space! If you’re not into the idea of having your bed out in the open, you can easily hang some curtains around it to create separation! Not only that, but if you hang curtains high, it gives the illusion of higher ceilings and a larger room. You can get creative with the rods and hardware, to add really subtle touches to your place. Plus, they won’t bulk up the space, but add a ton of style!

RUGS

Okay, so let’s say you aren’t the handiest with a drill. No worries! Another great way to break up a room is with rugs. They’re easy to set up, and they visually separate a room so that your space doesn’t seem like just one big mess. Make sure they’re distinct rugs, like these two different toned rugs seen below! Without having to put a single hole in the wall, the space looks more defined.
