Living in UT Campus

UT Campus is the best spot to live if you want to live close to the hustle and bustle of campus! UT Campus is Downtown, extending South-North from 15th St. to 30th St. In the middle of campus, Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd runs East-West, and a large strip of this street is known as “The Drag”. UT Campus residents tend to live within a 2-mile radius of The Drag. This whole neighborhood has so much to explore, and luckily, it’s all super walkable!

Living on campus means you’ll be close to everything UT has to offer and getting to class won’t be a hassle. Although the UT Campus is small compared to other neighborhoods in Austin, there’s an abundance of things to do and see, all within walking distance of each other. The Drag is home to campus’ best eats, treats, and shops. You’ll find staples like Q’Doba, Kerbey Lane, and Madam Mams. Shop vintage at Buffalo Exchange, or hit up Royal Legion Tattoo or Diablo Rojo for some new ink.

There are tons of museums in the area, for all you art and history lovers! Popular museums on the UT Campus include the Bullock Texas State Museum, Blanton Museum of Art, and the Texas Memorial Museum. Also for lovers of music and theater, you can catch a show at the Bass Concert Hall!

Finding your dream apartment in UT Campus

Most renters of UT Campus apartments attend or work for the University. Therefore, many apartments in this area are known as “student housing.” While anyone can rent student housing units, these rentals work a little differently from your average apartment. They typically lease out each room individually, instead of by unit. Many apartments are furnished, have cable/internet included in monthly costs, have community washer/dryers, and facilitate roommate matching. With all that in mind, renting by room in UT Campus can be cheaper than the apartments in surrounding Downtown Austin, and it puts you in a neighborhood with tons of charm and lots of things to do!
