What Its Known For
If you dream of living along charming tree-lined streets while enjoying the convenience of city living and the character of a small town, you’ll want to wake up each morning in Alamo Heights. It is the place to be for many residents who want to enjoy the luxuries of local living while still being a stone’s throw away from the bustling downtown. Alamo Heights Apartments will place you near to some of the city’s most popular places to shop, drink, and dine.
One thing to note before setting your sights on Alamo Heights– while it serves up a lot, apartments aren’t one of them. Despite its desirability, the rental market is smaller in this residential district, and apartment locating can be challenging.
Alamo Heights Neighborhood Overview
Though Alamo Heights is only 5 miles north from the center of San Antonio’s Downtown district, it can feel a world away with its tree-lined streets, cozy cottages, and small-town/big city vibes. This part of town is predominately suburban but does offer its own downtown, which is centered around the shop-lined Broadway Street. Alamo Heights is a municipality with its own local government, police, fire, and sanitation departments.
Things to Do Around Alamo Heights
Even though residents of Alamo Heights live so close to big city amenities, they rarely feel the need to leave their neighborhood. Lined with eclectic boutiques, fashionable shops, luxury dining, cozy coffee shops, and more, residents are usually quite happy sticking close to home for their day to day activities.
Premium shopping is perhaps one of the larger draws for residents and visitors, with frequent visits to the Alamo Quarry Shopping Mall and enjoyable outings to the quirky, locally-owned shops along Broadway and New Braunfels Avenue. However, that isn’t all there is to do here. Home to the Robber Baron Cave Preserve and Judson Nature Trails (and just a short skip to Olmos Basin Park), residents can easily escape their busy lives and fall into more natural surroundings for a bit. And if the heat is begging you to stay in, you can find beautiful sanctuary in Texas’s first modern art museum, The McNay Museum of Art.
For food, you can travel all around the world– grabbing French favorites at La Madeleine French Bakery or Savor Bistro, Italian pizza from Sorrento Ristorante and Pizza, sushi at Osaka Japanese Steak & Sushi, Asian flavors at Bok Choy or Mon Thai Bistro & Sushi, and all of the Tex Mex flavors San Antonio is famous for at La Paloma Blanca.
Coffee lovers can get their caffeine fix at Local Coffee, CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery, and Merit Coffee. A sweet tooth is best adjusted at Broadway Daily Bread or with a well-recommended carrot cake cupcake from Bird Bakery.
