If you’re like most people searching for a rental in San Antonio, you probably have your hopes set on La Cantera San Antonio– otherwise known as “The Rim.” As a freshly built suburban haven with all of the amenities you could want, La Cantera is now one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in San Antonio. Despite its inarguable popularity, ongoing development projects present the rental market with a continuous stream of La Cantera Apartments. And because the city is so new, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any buildings more than 10 years old during your apartment locating journey— hello fresher finishes, better efficiency, and fewer maintenance calls!

La Cantera Neighborhood Overview

La Cantera San Antonio is a mix of suburban vibes with modern amenities and easy access to downtown. As a newly-built and still in-construction city, this former quarry is transforming into a modern space for luxury living, dining, shopping, and entertainment. La Cantera, or The Rim San Antonio, is now 178-acres of mixed-used urban design, combining subdivisions, a town center, large shopping centers, golf courses, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

The neighborhood is located in the Northwest corner of San Antonio, bordering the interchange between IH-10 and Loop 1604– just north of the University of Texas, San Antonio Main Campus, and a short drive to San Antonio’s historic downtown area.

Things to Do Around La Cantera San Antonio

If you like shopping, eating, and being entertained, you won’t be disappointed. Being home to Six Flags Fiesta Texas would be enough to keep most people entertained, but the giant amusement park is almost overshadowed by La Cantera’s bustling shopping scene.

With now more than 3 million square feet of combined retail space (and growing), it’s a shopper’s paradise. The most notable are The Shops at La Cantera, an open-air center that is home to nearly 200 stores, and a variety of top-notch sit-down restaurants. You can even sip and shop with a to-go drink from Tiny Cantina or Luciano.

Speaking of restaurants, you’ll find just about anything your taste buds are craving here. Grab some Italian favorites from Maggiano’s Little Italy, some New American flavor at Mash’d, or fuse French fare with the Texas flavors you love at Signature. Of course, if you can’t spot your favorite diner now (which will be a challenge in itself), there are plenty of new options opening their doors in La Cantera almost daily.

When your wallet and waist need a break from the latest season trends and restaurant openings, there are plenty of other experiences to be had as well. You can test your golf swing at The Resort Course or The Palmer Course or put two wheels to the dirt and speed down nearby biking trails. You also have newly built movie theatres and an abundance of other indoor entertainment options if you’re looking for a break from the San Antonio heat.
